Materials supply for the Arctic ship «Yamal Irbis»
- Client: Sevnor Management LLC
- Task: AKRUS® trademark coatings supply for Yamal Irbis ice-class ship dock repair
In July 2016, the Yamal Irbis shipyard underwent repairs at the Krasnaya Kuznitsa shipyard in Arkhangelsk, utilising coatings bearing the AKRUS® trademark. The Yamal Irbis is a year-round operational vessel on the route between the ports of Arkhangelsk and Sabetta (on the Yamal Peninsula in the Ob Bay).
The results of a tender process conducted in June 2016 indicated that AKRUS® marine coating systems from the Russian company AKZ Coatings LLC had been selected for use.
By the time of the technical inspection, which was conducted between 3 and 6 March 2017 at the port of Arkhangelsk, the Yamal Irbis had already undertaken several flights in the Arctic between the ports of Arkhangelsk and Sabetta. It then proceeded to traverse the entirety of the Northern Sea Route, from the Ob Bay to the Bering Strait, before finally reaching China with its cargo.
Following its loading, the vessel traversed the Indian Ocean, the Suez Canal, and circumnavigated Europe, Scandinavia, and Novaya Zemlya. Subsequently, from Cape Zhelaniya, the Yamal Irbis motor ship traversed the Kara Sea navigated by Rosatomflot ice-breaking vessels, transporting the cargo to the port of Sabetta.
The vessel returned to the port of Arkhangelsk on 26 February 2017, having arrived on 3 March 2017. During the inspection in Arkhangelsk, it was recorded that the ice-resistant coating of Akrus-Strong was in an excellent condition. The anti-corrosion coatings Akrus-Epoks C and polyurethane finish Akrus-Poliur, applied during the repair in 2016, also demonstrated their efficacy in the tests conducted in Arctic and tropical waters.
On 6 March 2017, the LLC "AKZ coatings" conducted a diving inspection of the hull of the "Yamal Irbis". The inspection encompassed the bottom of the hull, the lower section of the vertical side, the flat bottom, the rudder, the screw-steering complex, the aft telescope of the vessel, and the bow of the left and right sides. Upon completion of the diving inspection, it was determined that the AKRUS® Strong coatings exhibited no visible signs of deterioration. There are no discernible differences between the surface and visible portions of the vertical side of the hull after unloading.
The following products were used during the dock repair:
- Ship's ice belt: Ice-resistant coating AKRUS® Strong (Dry film thickness 500 mkm)
- Freeboard: Anticorrosive system AKRUS® Epoks С (thermal profile rack 2?100 mkm), polyurethane finish AKRUS® Poliur (thermal profile rack 70 mkm)
